Match your herd to your water and feed, ministry tells cattle farmers
With a below-normal rainy season forecast, the Ministry of Agriculture says farmers should work out how long their water and feed will last before deciding how many animals to keep — but is not ordering anyone to destock. It also plans to vaccinate one million cattle against anthrax in 2027.

16,000 working tractors for the summer season — against a need of 40,000
Government counts about 16,000 functional tractors for the 2026/27 season and wants to double that by 2030. The Belarus mechanisation scheme offers three-year terms at 7.5% with no collateral, and has supplied more than 2,000 tractors so far.

Grain deficit of up to 541,881 tonnes forecast as El Niño looms
Officials expect about 1.6 million tonnes of grain in 2026/27 — 42% less than last season — and a deficit of 266,881 to 541,881 tonnes. At least two million cattle are already at risk in parts of the country, and input support is going to 3.5 million farming families.

Each listing carries a label saying how far it has been checked. That is not a warranty — see the animals, crop, machine or land yourself, and confirm ownership and permits before any money moves.

List for sale →A marketplace, not a noticeboard
Cattle, grain, machinery and land in Zimbabwe change hands mostly through WhatsApp groups and word of mouth — which is how buyers end up paying for animals without movement permits, grain that fails on moisture, a tractor with no registration book, or a farm the seller cannot legally transfer. Here every listing carries a label saying how far it has been checked, so buyers know what has been seen and what has not.
Listings are taken in six categories:
- LivestockCattle, goats and sheep — breeding stock, weaners and slaughter animals.
- PoultryLayers, broilers, point-of-lay pullets, day-old chicks, indigenous birds and eggs.
- Crops & produceVegetables, fruit, soya, groundnuts, sugar beans, potatoes and other farm produce.
- GrainsMaize, wheat, sorghum and millets, sold by the tonne.
- EquipmentTractors, implements, irrigation, pumps, trucks and farm buildings.
- Farms & plotsFarms, smallholdings and plots for sale or lease, with the type of title stated.

Six checksMost farm deals that go wrong fail on one of these. All six can be checked before money moves.
- 01See the animals, crop or machine yourself — or send someone you trust
- 02Livestock: stock cards or brand that match the seller, and a veterinary movement permit
- 03Check whether the animals come from a foot-and-mouth control area
- 04Grain: a weighbridge ticket and a moisture reading, not a guess
- 05Tractors and trucks: the registration book, in the seller's name
- 06Land: know whether it is a title deed, a lease or an offer letter — they are not the same
